Wings Win First D1 Regular Season Championship!

CT holding their faite in their hands. They needed 2 wins or a win against Rhode Island to clinch their first D1 Regular Season Championship in school history. They would have to do so without their top line of  Christ Kendall and Tyler Walser. The Wings would call upon ECRHA B All-Stars Bryan Feiler and Nick 'Narch Bear' Narchus.

Their first game would be against Suffolk County Community College. Matt McNeil saw his first chance at offense this season and took full advantage, being credited with 4 goals and an assist. Going into the third period with a 5-3 lead the Wings put the game out of reach with a pair of Power Play goals during a chippy third period to seal the 8-3 victory.

The Wings would then play second place Rhode Island with a chance to clinch the regular season title and the number one seed at regionals.  They would have to do so without Senior Defensmen Brandon Gasiewicz who suffered a season ending leg injury at the Suffolk game. The Wings would take full advantage of their powerplay chances by scoring 6 Powerplay goals. The Wings were led by Alex Durinka who slowed the game down to a familiar Buffalo pace and had 4 powerplay goals.

Their last game of the weekend would be a Sunday matinee against UCONN. The Wings would struggle with the early game, being down 3-1 at the end of the first. They would then cut the lead in half in the second period. The Wings powerplay would give them another victory. The Wings scored 3 powerplay goals in the third to win the game 5-3. The Wings went 16-22 (73%) on the Power Play during the weekend.

The B squad will travel to Pottstown, PA this weekend and both teams will travel to Feasterville in two weeks for regionals. The D1 team is looking for their 4 straight trip to the ECRHA Championship Game and 2nd Championship in 3 years. While the B squad will need a regional championship secure a spot at Nationals.
